Preventive Care Guidelines

Following NPHCDA schedules and standard medical screening milestones. Early detection and immunization are your best defense.

Immunization

BCG Vaccine

Protects against Tuberculosis (TB). Essential first vaccine for newborns.

Timing/Frequency: At Birth
Target Group: Newborns

OPV & Pentavalent

Protects against Polio, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type B.

Timing/Frequency: 6, 10, and 14 weeks
Target Group: Infants

Rotavirus Vaccine

Prevents severe rotavirus diarrhea in young children.

Timing/Frequency: 6 and 10 weeks
Target Group: Infants

Measles & Yellow Fever

Vital protection against highly contagious Measles and mosquito-borne Yellow Fever.

Timing/Frequency: 9 months
Target Group: Infants

HPV Vaccine

Prevents Human Papillomavirus infections that can lead to cervical cancer.

Timing/Frequency: 9 to 14 years (2 doses)
Target Group: Adolescent Girls

Malaria

Malaria Prevention

Use of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs), indoor residual spraying, and Intermittent Preventive Treatment in pregnancy (IPTp). Ensure environmental sanitation to clear stagnant water.

Timing/Frequency: Continuous / During Pregnancy
Target Group: All Ages / Pregnant Women

Screening

Blood Pressure & BMI

Routine check for hypertension and obesity, which are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

Timing/Frequency: At least once every year
Target Group: Adults (18+)

Fasting Blood Glucose & Lipid Profile

Screening for Diabetes Mellitus and hyperlipidemia. Vital for early detection and management.

Timing/Frequency: Every 1-3 years depending on risk
Target Group: Adults (40+ or earlier if high risk)

Pap Smear & Mammography

Cervical and breast cancer screening. Early detection saves lives.

Timing/Frequency: Pap Smear (every 3 years), Mammogram (annually/biennially)
Target Group: Women (21+ for Pap, 40+ for Mammogram)
